Every round has two switches, Markets and Matches, and both are on by default. Turn one off when your league doesn't want that feature on a given round. A commish or admin can change them.
- Markets is betting: the auto-published slate of betting pools and the pools players make themselves.
- Matches is side-versus-side matches that players or managers set up for the round.
How do I turn Markets or Matches off for a round?
- Open the event, then the round.
- Open Other Options.
- Flip the Markets or Matches switch to off.
If nothing is riding on it, it just turns off. If there are live bets or matches, a box tells you what will happen first. Choose Turn Markets off or Turn Matches off to confirm, or Keep it on to leave things as they are.
You can also pick the switches per round while creating an event. They start from your league's defaults (see below).
What happens to bets and matches already on the round?
Turning Markets off: every live betting pool on the round is voided and every stake is refunded. The box tells you how many markets, how many dollars and how many bettors are affected, and you have to confirm before anything is refunded. Each bettor gets a line in Messages saying their stake was refunded and why. Matches on the round keep running, but with no side bets on them.
Turning Matches off: every live match on the round is taken off the board. A match that has not started is deleted. A match that already has holes played is kept as voided. Any side bets on those matches are refunded, each bettor is told, and the players in the match get a "your match was removed" message. The box tells you how many matches will go. Betting pools that aren't tied to a match are not touched.
Scores, standings and everything else on the round are unaffected.
Can I change these switches on a completed round?
No. Once a round is completed its bets are settled and its results are history, so both switches are locked. You can change them on a round that is scheduled or in progress.
What happens when I turn Markets back on?
- Before the round starts: the betting slate comes back in full, and any matches on the round get their side bets back. Bets that were refunded are not placed again; bettors place new ones if they want to.
- After the round has started: the switch turns on but no new bets open, because betting has already closed for a round in play. The switch says so.
Turning Matches back on lets people set up matches again. The matches that were removed do not come back.
What do the "New rounds start with" settings do?
In League Settings, General, New rounds start with sets whether Markets and Matches are on or off for each round you create from now on. Use it if your league never wants betting or matches, so you don't have to switch them off round by round.
It is a starting point, not a rule. Changing it doesn't touch rounds that already exist; each of those keeps its own switches. You can still flip any single round either way.
Do the switches apply to scramble and alternate-shot rounds?
Those formats never have Markets or Matches, because nobody records an individual score. The switches don't appear on those rounds.
What do players see when a feature is off?
On a round with Markets off, there is no Bet button on the round and the round isn't in the Betting list. On a round with Matches off, matches can't be created and the round isn't in the Gaming list. Anyone who was refunded can still see the refund in Messages.
